What to Expect When You Hire a Medical Copywriter

A row of colourful sticky post it notes stuck to a wall - hire a medical copywriter to understand the process

When you hire a medical copywriter, you’re not just paying for words on a page. You’re investing in a process that ensures accuracy, clarity, and content that supports your business goals.

As a medical copywriter with a background in frontline NHS care, I understand how long it can take to write high-quality, evidence-based content. That’s why my process is designed to make working together smooth, efficient, and stress-free – from our first conversation to final sign-off.

Let’s look at what you can expect – from start to finish – when you hire a medical copywriter.

Step 1: Discovery Call

This is where we get to know each other. I’ll ask about your goals, audience, and timelines, and share examples of my clinical and copywriting experience. By the end, you’ll have a clear idea of how I work and what to expect.

Step 2: The Brief

A strong brief is the backbone of any successful project. Whether you provide one or we create it together, I’ll make sure all the details are nailed down before I start writing. This avoids confusion and saves time later.

Step 3: Writing

This is where my medical background comes into play. Having worked in the NHS and written extensively for healthcare organisations and clinical support services, I bring:

  • Accuracy: I understand medical terminology and know how to translate it into plain English.
  • Expert knowledge: my frontline experience means I don’t just write about healthcare — I’ve lived the life of a clinician and seen the patient experience firsthand.
  • Sensitivity: I know how to strike the right tone when writing about complex or personal health topics.

Step 4: Submitting the First Draft

You’ll receive the first draft by the agreed deadline (often sooner). If something unexpected arises, I communicate quickly so you’re never left wondering.

Step 5: Edits and Feedback

Your input is vital. I’ll refine the content based on your feedback, making sure the final version captures your voice and meets your objectives. Most clients say they don’t require any edits, and this is usually thanks to a strong brief at the start. However, one round of edits is included in each quote just in case.

Step 6: Approval

Once approved, I’ll invoice you for any remaining balance. Once payment has been made in full, the copy is yours to use straight away. My aim is that you finish the process not just with polished, accurate content, but also with confidence in the ease of working together.

Why Process Matters When You Hire a Medical Copywriter

Clear communication, reliability, and respect for deadlines are just as important as writing skills. When you work with a health copywriter with both clinical knowledge and a structured process, you get peace of mind: your content will be accurate, empathetic, and delivered on time.
