Reflections on 2022

As I type this, I have just submitted my final article of 2022. This year, I have written hundreds of thousands of words for clients on a variety of topics from acute healthcare to personal growth. It’s a cliché, but I feel honoured to work for such inspiring, friendly and creative clients. I have truly loved the work I have been involved in this year.

2022 has been the year that my professional direction has become clearer. I have never struggled to write about a topic that was previously unfamiliar to me (and here I reminisce ‘fondly’ on my early copywriting days teaching myself about trains and terminal dwell), but clarifying my focus moving forward feels incredibly positive.

Until recently, I was not someone who paid attention to slightly alternative beliefs or productivity systems. Training as a medic can leave you with a blinkered opinion of any ideas that are not peer-reviewed or extensively proven by multi-phase trials. However, with a little more distance between myself and clinical work, I have become more open to mindful productivity and intentional thinking for achieving desired results.

In late 2021, my sister gave me a Productivity Journal. I began filling it in most days, thinking about my routines, aims for the week, and my short- and long-term goals. Each week, I also noted down reflections on other aspects of my life including my family, career, health, wellness, and personal learning.

One year on, I have flicked back to the start of the journal and checked in on the dreams I had this time last year. I have accomplished many of my short-term goals, with the rest progressing well. Reflecting on the last year has been encouraging, as I can see that I am on the right path to meeting the remaining short-term goals, while also working towards my bigger ambitions. I know that if I had not started journaling my aims, I would not have been so focused.

I am not one to make New Year’s Resolutions, but perhaps I have come round to the idea of setting intentions or manifestations as a way to intentionally create the career (and personal life) I truly want.

Before I return to work in January, I will sit down to think carefully about my goals for 2023, and how I will achieve them. Journaling in 2022 has supported my drive and creativity as a freelancer, and I am excited to begin setting my intentions for next year.

I would like to thank all of my clients for a wonderful year.

I wish you a peaceful holiday period, and am looking forward to getting started on more creative content in the New Year.
